Join us at the UC Santa Cruz Cowell Hay Barn, 5:30-7:30pm, for the book launch of Barbara Benish and Nathalie Blanc's Form, Art, and the Environment: Engaging in Sustainability (Routledge Press, 2017). The authors will give a brief overview of the European and U.S. roots of environmental art, it’s theoretical background in today’s art and social change climate, some international case studies, and a theory of where the movement is going globally, concluding with the current #nodapl movement and Standing Rock.
Following the lecture Benish and Blanc will take questions from the audience. Form, Art, and the Environment will also be available for purchase ($30, paperback), with the authors available to sign copies.
Refreshments will be available at 5:30 and the program will begin at 6pm.
This event is FREE and open to the public. It is made possible by the UCSC Art Department, the Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems (CASFS), the Social Practice Art Research Center (SPARC) and the the Institute of the Arts and Sciences.
