Undergraduate Student Opportunities

Are you a UC Santa Cruz undergraduate student interested in arts entrepreneurship, museum work, and arts programming? At the Institute of the Arts and Science, students gain valuable pre-professional experience by assisting with curatorial projects, education programs, public events, public relations, and outreach. The IAS offers for-credit internships, paid internships, and other job opportunities to students.

Internships for Academic Credit

Internships for academic credit with the IAS are offered on a case-by-case basis. Internship proposals are crafted by upper class students majoring in the Arts in coordination with an IAS staff member who will be the student's supervisor and academic sponsor, and are approved by the student's advisor. Academic internships are focused on creating educational programming for existing and upcoming exhibitions; conducting research for exhibitions and arts programming; assisting in planning and curating exhibitions; conducting outreach for IAS programming, and assisting with events, conferences, and artist lecture series.

Email the IAS's Curator and Program Manager Rachel Nelson (renelson@ucsc.edu) for more information.

Wedding Endowment Fund. These internships can span a quarter or an academic year, and offer unique academic and practical experience for select juniors and seniors in the Arts Division. Paid internships are 8-10 hours per week during the academic year, with interns responsible for exhibition and program development.
