Lucy R. Lippard is a writer, activist, and sometime curator. Since 1966, she has published 24 books on contemporary art and cultural studies, including Mixed Blessings: New Art in a Multicultural America (1990), Partial Recall: Photographs of Native North Americans (1992), The Lure of the Local: Senses of Place in a Multicentered Society (1997), and Undermining: A Wild Ride through Land Use, Politics, and Art in the Changing West (2014). She has been co-founder of various artists’ groups including the Art Workers Coalition, Ad Hoc Women Artists Committee, Printed Matter, The Heresies Collective, Political Art Documentation/Distribution (PAD/D), Artists Call Against U.S. Intervention in Central America, and the guerrilla performance groups Outside Agitators and Damage Control. She has curated some 50 shows, often in non-traditional venues, and once made comics starring Polly Tickle. For 19 years she has edited El Puente, the monthly community newsletter for Galisteo, New Mexico, where she has lived for 23 years and is active in community planning and other local issues.
