From military incursions to coercive trade agreements, violence is one of the most pervasive exports of the modern era. Borders and checkpoints, which regulate the flow of people and goods, also produce their own harms that carry far beyond the boundary itself. In this film series, artists from around the world creatively render the many ways in which violence has become a global phenomenon, while offering aesthetic strategies of resistance.
Featured artists in the series include Martha Rosler, Jon Sasaki, Luis Valdovino, Jin-me Yoon, and Akram Zaatari. Curated by Luke A. Fidler, the series will be continuously looped and available for viewing in the IAS galleries’ dedicated screening room during regular opening hours.
Films in the series:
Work in Progress (14:00), Luis Valdovino, 1990
A North American Practice Exported Elsewhere (3:00), Jon Sasaki, 2013
