Elizabeth Lara is preparing to graduate with a PhD in Anthropology from Deakin University in Australia. Her doctoral project is focused on gardens in carceral settings throughout California, including Spanish missions, Alcatraz Island, Manzanar, and contemporary state prisons. Elizabeth’s work has been published in the edited collection The Promise of Multispecies Justice (Duke Press 2022). Since submitting her dissertation, Elizabeth spends time designing, installing, and maintaining native plant gardens across the Los Angeles area. She also leads landscape tours at the Dodger Stadium Botanic Garden.
